Spinal manipulative therapy

Within the chiropractic profession, this is often referred to as a spinal adjustment. This is a specific form of chiropractic manual therapy which is applied to spinal joints in order to help improve spinal range of motion and reduce any associated muscle spasm and/or nerve irritation or entrapment.

X-ray facilities

Our practice boasts its own on-site Digital X-Ray facilities enabling us, where necessary, in making quick and affordable diagnostic decisions before commencing a course of treatment.

The images are recorded on computer and can be easily reproduced and transferred onto other media such as CDs and DVDs. They can also be shared with other healthcare providers electronically should it be necessary to do so. For a nominal cost we can also provide you with a copy of your X-Rays.

YouTube video

Our chiropractic centre is pleased to be able to offer this valuable new service for its patients. Diagnostic ultrasound is a relatively new method for diagnosing soft tissue injury which is instantly accessible and at a fraction of the cost of other scanning techniques

What are some common uses of the procedure?
Ultrasound images are typically used to help diagnose:

  • Tendon tears, such as tears of the rotator cuff in the shoulder or Achilles tendon in the ankle.
  • Abnormalities of the muscles, such as tears or over-use syndromes.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy (SWT) is a non-invasive acoustic wave which carries high energy to painful spots in musculoskeletal tissues.

The high energy helps promote regeneration and reparative processes of tendons, bones and other soft tissues.

Compressed air creates kinetic energy in a projectile which in turn transmits it’s energy from the applicator to the target tissue.

What to expect on your first visit

On your first visit, the Chiropractor will take a detailed review of your medical history before carrying out a thorough physical examination. This examination will normally include:

  • A postural evaluation
  • Orthopaedic testing
  • A neurological examination
  • Muscle testing
  • Palpation of various muscles and joints
  • A specific examination of the spine.

If your Chiropractor considers it necessary, you may also have x-rays taken or he/she may recommend an ultrasound examination of the area of complaint.

Once the Chiropractor has studied all the information, he will then be able to give you a report of his findings based on a working diagnosis (this may be on the second visit if you’ve had x-rays or an ultrasound examination), discuss them with you and then recommend a programme of care specifically suited to your needs.

What to wear

During your first appointment you may need to change down to your underwear for physical examination. This will depend on your type of complaint. Ladies are always provided with a gown. On subsequent visits you will usually be treated with your clothes on. For this reason, it is advisable to wear loose clothing. A tracksuit or something similar is ideal.
